Concrete plinths are the permanent solution to the gap between the bottom of a fence and the ground. They stop vermin entry, prevent soil erosion, protect timber fence rails from ground contact, and — when correctly installed — meet AS 1926.1-2012 pool fence compliance requirements for the maximum 100mm gap under a pool barrier.

After 50 years building and fencing across Australia, the single most common call-back I deal with is fence rails rotting at the base because there was no plinth installed at the time of fencing. It's a straightforward fix that's far cheaper to do at installation than to retrofit five years later when the rail has failed.

• 150mm Concrete Plinths — steep slopes, large gaps over 100mm, maximum pool fence compliance margin, commercial and school perimeters.
