C-Channel & PFC Steel Posts

Galvanised C-channel (PFC) steel posts are the channel-section posts used to start, end and join concrete sleeper retaining walls. Sleepers locate into the open channel, which makes PFC posts ideal for wall ends, starts, corners and step-downs, and for lighter residential walls. Hot-dip galvanised for long-term corrosion resistance in Australian conditions and delivered Australia-wide by Retaining Walls Direct.

What C-channel / PFC posts are used for

A PFC (Parallel Flange Channel) post has a C-shaped section with one open face. Because the sleepers seat into that channel, PFC posts are most often used as end and start posts, at corners and step-downs, and on lower walls where a full H-beam isn't required. For intermediate (middle) posts that carry sleepers on both sides, and for taller walls, pair them with galvanised H-beam posts.

Choosing the right PFC post

  • 150 PFC — for lower residential walls and end/start positions.
  • 200 PFC — a heavier channel for taller or higher-load wall ends.

Post size, spacing and embedment depth depend on wall height, soil type and surcharge load. Use our steel post sizing guide to match a post to your wall, or have it confirmed by a qualified engineer.

Delivery, council & engineering

Steel posts are heavy and oversized — delivered Australia-wide; send your postcode and quantities for a freight quote. Walls over 1m, on reactive soils, or near boundaries, driveways and structures should be designed by a qualified engineer and may need council approval — see walls over 1 metre. Get a free quote.
