Galvanised Steel C Posts – 150mm 150PFC

Galvanised Steel C Posts – 150mm 150PFC are heavy-duty C-channel retaining wall posts designed for concrete sleeper retaining wall systems where a stronger channel post is required. Also known as 150PFC posts or 150mm Parallel Flange Channel posts, they are commonly used for wall ends, single-sided sleeper support, boundary retaining walls, deeper footings, and retaining wall sections where a larger C-channel profile is preferred over a lighter 100PFC post.

The galvanised steel finish helps protect the post from corrosion, soil moisture, weather exposure, termites, insects, and fire. Compared with timber retaining wall posts, galvanised 150PFC steel posts provide a stronger, more durable, and longer-lasting support option for reinforced concrete sleeper retaining walls.

Available Lengths

150PFC galvanised C posts are available in longer lengths to suit retaining wall designs that require deeper footing embedment, stronger end support, and greater allowance for wall height. The total post length must allow for both the visible wall height above ground and the required in-ground embedment depth below ground.

Post Length Typical Use
2000mm Low to medium retaining walls where a heavier C-channel post is required and footing embedment must be allowed.
2400mm Residential retaining walls, end post applications, and boundary walls requiring additional post depth.
2800mm Medium wall sections where stronger single-sided support and deeper footing embedment are needed.
3200mm Stepped retaining walls, sloping sites, and projects where wall height or soil conditions require longer posts.
3600mm Heavy-duty C-channel applications where extra embedment depth is required for lateral resistance.
4000mm Longer retaining wall posts for deeper concrete footings and more demanding residential wall designs.
4400mm Engineer-specified retaining wall layouts where a longer 150PFC post is required.
4800mm Higher retaining wall sections, heavy clay sites, and walls requiring increased footing depth.
5200mm Demanding wall layouts where longer steel posts help provide deeper embedment and improved support.
5600mm Heavy-duty retaining wall applications requiring long post length and strong footing allowance.
5800mm Longest listed 150PFC option for deep embedment, stepped sites, and engineer-approved wall designs.

Technical Overview

A 150PFC C post is a larger Parallel Flange Channel section used where a stronger C-channel post is required for a concrete sleeper retaining wall. The channel profile supports sleepers from one side of the post, making it a practical option for wall ends, boundary terminations, and single-sided retaining wall support.

The 150PFC section provides more steel depth and stiffness than a 100PFC C post, making it better suited to applications where wall height, soil load, footing depth, or engineering requirements call for a heavier channel section. It can be a useful choice for projects where a C post is still the correct post type, but a lighter 100PFC section does not provide enough capacity.

Post selection should always consider retained height, soil type, drainage, footing size, post spacing, surcharge load, and whether the wall is supporting a fence, driveway, structure, or sloping ground above. For high-load wall sections or continuous middle wall bays, an H-beam post may be more suitable than a C-channel post.

When to Use 150PFC C Posts

  • Wall ends: Use 150PFC C posts where concrete sleepers terminate at the start or end of a retaining wall run.
  • Single-sided sleeper support: The C-channel profile supports sleepers from one side of the post.
  • Heavier C-channel applications: Suitable where a larger C post is required instead of a lighter 100PFC post.
  • Boundary retaining walls: Useful for fence-line and boundary walls where stronger end support is required.
  • Longer footing embedment: Available in longer lengths to suit deeper concrete footing requirements.
  • Engineer-specified designs: Use 150PFC posts where the retaining wall design nominates a 150mm Parallel Flange Channel section.

150PFC vs 100PFC C Posts

The 100PFC C post is generally used for lower retaining walls, smaller garden walls, and lighter-duty end post applications. The 150PFC C post is the heavier option and is better suited to projects where the wall requires a larger channel profile, longer post length, greater footing embedment, or stronger single-sided support.

If the wall is low, soil conditions are stable, and loads are minimal, a 100PFC post may be suitable. If the wall is higher, the footing needs to be deeper, or the design calls for a larger channel section, 150PFC is the stronger C-post option.

C Posts vs H Posts

C posts and H posts are used for different parts of a concrete sleeper retaining wall. A C post holds sleepers from one side only, making it suitable for wall ends and selected single-sided applications. An H post holds sleepers on both sides, making it the correct post type for middle wall bays where the wall continues from one bay into the next.

For lower walls and end-post locations, a C-channel post may be the correct and most efficient choice. For taller walls, reactive clay sites, surcharge loads, driveway-adjacent walls, or continuous middle wall runs, H posts are generally preferred because they provide greater stiffness and support.

Installation Considerations

Correct installation is critical for retaining wall performance. 150PFC C posts should be set plumb or to the required back lean, spaced to suit the selected concrete sleeper length, and embedded into concrete footings sized for the wall height, soil conditions, and surcharge load.

The footing must be deep and wide enough to resist lateral earth pressure from the retained soil. As wall height increases, the required post length, footing depth, footing diameter, and concrete volume generally increase as well. Where engineering drawings are supplied, always follow the specified post size, post spacing, footing depth, and concrete strength.

Drainage should always be installed behind the wall. A suitable retaining wall drainage system normally includes free-draining aggregate, geotextile fabric, and slotted agricultural pipe at the base of the wall discharging to a legal outlet. Poor drainage can increase hydrostatic pressure behind the sleepers and may lead to movement, leaning, cracking, or wall failure.

Benefits of Galvanised 150PFC C Posts

  • Heavy-duty C-channel profile: Provides stronger single-sided sleeper support than lighter C-post sections.
  • Galvanised protection: Helps protect the steel from corrosion, soil moisture, and outdoor exposure.
  • Strong steel construction: Provides a more durable post option than timber in ground-contact retaining wall applications.
  • Termite resistant: Steel is not affected by termites, borers, or other insects.
  • Fire resistant: Galvanised steel provides better fire resistance than timber retaining wall posts.
  • Long length range: Available in longer options to suit deeper footings, stepped sites, and more demanding retaining wall layouts.
  • Low maintenance: No timber treatment, staining, or regular replacement is required.
