Returns, Delivery & Refund Policy

At Retaining Walls Direct we supply premium concrete sleepers, galvanised steel posts and heavy retaining wall materials direct to homeowners, landscapers and builders across Australia. Because these products are bulky, heavy, made to order and dispatched through specialist freight networks, the terms below reflect the real-world logistics of the industry. By placing an order you accept these terms in full. Please read this page carefully before you order. Last updated: June 2026.

How We Deliver

We fulfil your order through a national network of trusted manufacturers and freight partners, sourcing materials from the location closest to your project to keep freight distances and costs down. Delivery is by third-party carriers using the right heavy vehicle for your order — typically a crane truck (Hiab) for kerbside placement, or a flat-deck for large commercial orders (a forklift or telehandler is required on site for flat-deck loads). Small accessories and consumables are sent by courier.

Freight Zones & Indicative Pricing

Freight is confirmed at the time of order based on your exact suburb, total weight, vehicle type and site access. The ranges below are indicative for standard kerbside delivery. Your exact delivered price is confirmed before payment is taken — use our materials & freight calculator for an estimate.

Order Changes

Accuracy at the time of ordering is the customer's responsibility. All change requests must be submitted in writing by email and are only effective once we acknowledge them in writing.

  • It is the customer's responsibility to verify product types, finishes, dimensions, quantities and the delivery address before confirming an order.
  • No changes can be accepted within 48 hours of the scheduled delivery or collection date, as freight partners typically collect from the manufacturer the day prior.
  • If an order has already been picked, staged or produced, a restocking fee of up to 30% may apply, plus any freight already incurred.
  • Incorrect delivery addresses supplied by the customer that result in re-delivery will incur the full additional freight cost.

Site Access & Unloading

Delivery is to the kerbside or nearest safe, legal and accessible point only. Crane trucks and heavy vehicles require specific conditions — please review these before ordering, as a failed delivery caused by undisclosed access issues will incur a re-delivery fee.

  • The vehicle must be able to park within 20 metres of the drop point, with at least 3.0 metres of clear road width during unloading.
  • The road must be sealed or firm hardstand capable of supporting a 15–20 tonne vehicle — no soft ground.
  • At least 5.0 metres overhead clearance for crane operation — check for powerlines, trees and awnings.
  • The drop zone must be firm and level, with all obstructions (parked cars, bins) cleared before the delivery window.
  • A responsible adult (18+) must be on site during the delivery window to receive and check the order.
  • You must provide suitable equipment or labour to unload, unless crane/Hiab or tailgate offloading has been quoted and booked in advance.

Quoted delivery timeframes are estimates only. While we work with reliable partners, delays or rescheduling can occur due to weather, carrier capacity, manufacturing lead times or site access. Retaining Walls Direct accepts no liability for any financial loss, labour cost, hire cost or consequential loss arising from delivery delays, rescheduling, failed delivery or access problems.

What to Expect on Delivery Day

  1. Booking — once your order and payment are confirmed, we arrange fulfilment with your nearest partner and schedule a delivery date.
  2. Day-before notice — you'll receive an SMS or email confirming the time window and any final access requirements.
  3. Driver call-ahead — the driver calls roughly 30 minutes before arrival so you can clear the drop zone.
  4. Delivery — materials are placed kerbside; typically 15–30 minutes depending on order size.
  5. Inspection & sign-off — inspect the delivery and note any visible damage on the docket before signing. Signing without notation is taken as acceptance in good condition.

Failed Deliveries & Re-delivery

A re-delivery fee of $150–$500+ (depending on location and vehicle) applies where: no one is present to accept delivery; site access prevents safe delivery; the order is refused; or an incorrect address was provided. If goods must be returned to the depot due to refusal, the customer is responsible for both outbound and return freight. A waiting surcharge of $120/hr (inc. GST) may apply where delivery is delayed on site by access issues or obstructions; you'll be notified before any surcharge is raised. In severe weather or unsafe conditions, our carrier may reschedule at no additional cost.

Title & Risk

Risk in the goods passes to the customer on delivery or collection. Title in the goods remains with Retaining Walls Direct until payment has been received in full.

Damaged, Incorrect or Missing Goods

Inspect your order on arrival. Any damaged, incorrect or missing items must be noted on the delivery docket at the time of delivery and reported to us in writing within 24 hours, with clear photographs, to sales@retainingwallsdirect.com.au. We will then liaise with the manufacturer on your behalf.

  • Claims cannot be accepted once goods have been unloaded out of sight of the driver, modified, cut or installed.
  • The manufacturer must inspect and approve any claim before a replacement is authorised.
  • Where a transit-damage or incorrect-supply claim is confirmed, we arrange replacement or a credit. We are not liable for consequential costs such as labour or installation delays.

Click & Collect / Self-Arranged Freight

If you or your nominated carrier collect directly from the manufacturer's premises:

  • Collection must occur on the confirmed scheduled date. Goods not collected on time may incur storage/demurrage fees or a restocking fee.
  • The yard supervisor may refuse to load any vehicle deemed unsuitable, overloaded, unsafe or non-compliant with weight and load-restraint requirements.
  • It is the customer's responsibility to ensure their transport, restraint and load rating are appropriate. Retaining Walls Direct accepts no liability for loss or damage once goods leave the manufacturer's premises.

Returns

We do not accept returns of concrete sleepers, steel products or other heavy materials for change of mind or incorrect ordering. Because of their weight, handling and freight cost, manufacturers will not accept these goods back once dispatched. Where a return is approved by exception in writing, it is at the manufacturer's discretion and subject to a restocking fee of up to 30%, with all return freight at the customer's cost, and only for unused, undamaged, resaleable goods.

If your order arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply in full and we will work with the manufacturer to arrange an appropriate remedy.

Cancellations & Refunds

Credit card processing fees are non-refundable in all cases. Approved refunds are paid by bank transfer, typically within 5 business days. The following conditions apply based on the stage of your order at cancellation:

Cancellation scenario Refund outcome
Cancelled before payment is made to the manufacturer and freight company Refund of goods value minus credit card fees, within 5 business days
Cancelled after manufacturer payment, or once a job number is issued No refund available
Freight booked but manufacturer not yet paid Goods value refundable; delivery charge non-refundable (minus card fees)
Custom-cut, special-order or made-to-order items Non-refundable once production has commenced
Sale, clearance or discounted items Not eligible for refund
Goods confirmed as faulty, damaged or not as described Remedy arranged under Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in this policy limits or excludes your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded. Where goods cannot be supplied as ordered, or are found to be defective, we will work with the manufacturer to arrange a fair and timely resolution.
