Heavy-duty 200 x 100mm concrete sleepers are the thicker, higher-load version of the standard 75mm sleeper — built for taller walls, steep cuts, reactive clay soils, vehicle surcharge and commercial earth-retention. When to choose 100mm heavy-duty sleepers

• Walls beyond standard residential height, or taller tiered walls.
• Reactive or expansive clay soils, and high-rainfall sites.
• Surcharge loads — walls near driveways, vehicles or structures.
• Commercial and civil retaining where extra capacity is specified.

For low garden walls in stable ground, a standard 75mm concrete sleeper is usually sufficient and more economical.

Heavy-duty 100mm vs standard 75mm

The 100mm profile is thicker through the section than a standard 75mm sleeper, so each panel carries more lateral load. That makes it the safer choice as wall height, soil reactivity and surcharge increase — but the heavier sleeper must be matched with correctly sized posts. Walls over 1m, on reactive soils, or near boundaries, driveways and structures should be designed by a qualified engineer and may need council approval — see walls over 1 metre.
