Thickness: 80mm suits standard residential walls; 100mm is the heavier-duty option for taller walls or wider post spacing. Length: longer sleepers mean fewer posts but a higher load per post. Water behind a wall is the number-one cause of failure — always plan drainage (drainage guide). Walls over 1.0m or near boundaries/driveways/pools generally need engineering and council approval (engineered walls over 1 metre).
