Treated Pine Timber Sleepers — H4 CCA for Ground Contact Retaining Walls

Timber sleepers remain a practical and cost-effective option for low retaining walls in stable, well-drained soils. Our treated pine timber sleepers are H4 CCA (Copper Chrome Arsenate) treated to AS 1604 for in-ground and ground-contact applications, providing resistance to rot, termites, and fungal decay in Australian conditions.

Timber sleepers are best suited to walls under 1.0m in height where soil conditions are stable and drainage is adequate. For walls over 1.0m, reactive clay soils, or applications requiring a longer service life with minimal maintenance, we recommend our concrete sleeper range as a more durable alternative.

Available Timber Sleeper Sizes

  • 75mm H4 CCA Treated Pine Sleeper — standard specification for low garden walls and terracing up to approximately 600mm
  • 100mm H4 CCA Treated Pine Sleeper (Heavy Duty) — heavier specification for walls up to 1.0m in stable soils

Timber vs Concrete Sleepers — Honest Guidance

Timber sleepers have a typical service life of 15–25 years in Australian ground conditions depending on soil type, drainage, and climate. Concrete sleepers, by contrast, are effectively permanent when correctly installed. If you're building a wall that you don't want to replace in 15 years, concrete is the better long-term investment.
