Galvanised Steel Fence Bracket Kits for Retaining Wall Posts — Standard & Offset

In 50 years of building retaining walls across Australia, one of the most common finishing questions we get is: "How do I attach my fence to the top of the retaining wall posts?" These galvanised steel fence bracket kits are the answer — purpose-engineered to mount timber or steel fencing directly onto your H-beam UC posts and C-channel PFC posts, giving you a clean, structurally sound fence-over-wall system without improvised fixings or welding.

Available in three configurations to suit straight fence runs and offset post situations. Each kit includes 1 x bracket, 2 x nuts, and 2 x bolts — hot-dip galvanised for long-term corrosion resistance in all Australian soil and weather conditions.

Choose Your Kit Type

  • Standard 3mm Kit — For standard fence rails where the rail sits flush against the post face. Suits most residential timber paling and Colorbond fence applications. Rail thickness up to 3mm clearance.
  • Standard 6mm Kit — Same application as the 3mm kit but with a 6mm clearance gap between the bracket and post face. Use where a small standoff is needed for rail alignment or where post faces are slightly irregular.
  • Offset 6mm Kit — For situations where the fence line needs to step around a post rather than run directly alongside it. Common on corner posts, angled walls, or where the fence line changes direction at a post. 6mm offset clearance.

When Do You Need Fence Brackets?

Fence brackets are required any time you want to run a fence line above or alongside a concrete sleeper retaining wall using the same steel posts. Rather than setting separate fence posts behind the wall, you utilise the existing retaining wall posts as the fence posts — saving cost, reducing excavation, and creating a cleaner finished result. This is standard practice on residential retaining wall projects across Australia and is the method we recommend after 50 years in the trade.

The bracket bolts through the post web (the flat face of the UC or PFC section) and provides a fixing point for your fence rail. No welding required — the kit is designed for on-site installation by a builder, landscaper, or competent DIYer.

Installation Guide

  1. Select your kit type — Standard 3mm for flush rail applications, Standard 6mm for slight standoff, Offset 6mm for corner or angled fence lines.
  2. Mark your bracket position — Typically 50–75mm below the top of the post, or at your desired fence rail height.
  3. Drill through the post web — Use a metal drill bit sized to the bolt diameter. Drill through both faces of the UC or PFC section.
  4. Insert the bolt and bracket — Pass the bolt through the post and bracket, then thread on the nut.
  5. Torque to specification — Tighten firmly with a spanner. Do not over-torque on lighter PFC sections.
  6. Attach your fence rail — Fix your timber or steel rail to the bracket using appropriate fixings for your fence type.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use these brackets on both H-beam and C-channel posts?
Yes — these brackets are compatible with both UC (H-beam) and PFC (C-channel) post sections in the 100, 125, and 150 series. Check the bolt hole diameter matches your post section before ordering.

How many kits do I need per post?
Typically 2 kits per post — one for the top rail and one for the mid rail. For a single-rail fence, 1 kit per post is sufficient.

Are these brackets suitable for Colorbond fencing?
Yes — these brackets are compatible with standard Colorbond fence rail profiles. The galvanised finish is also compatible with Colorbond's zinc-aluminium coating, preventing galvanic corrosion at the contact point.

Do I need to seal the drill hole after installation?
We recommend applying a cold galvanising compound or zinc-rich paint to any cut or drilled edges on the post to maintain corrosion protection, particularly in coastal or high-humidity environments.
