Unlike timber, concrete will not rot, warp, split, splinter, or deteriorate from ground contact.

Smooth Bevel sleepers are designed to be installed with suitable retaining wall steel posts. Correct post selection, footing depth, drainage, backfill, soil type, and wall height all affect the final retaining wall design. For low walls in stable ground, C-Channel posts may be suitable. For taller walls, corners, surcharge loads, driveways, fences above the wall, or reactive clay sites, H-Beam posts are generally preferred for stronger support.
Drainage should always be considered behind the wall. A suitable drainage system normally includes free-draining aggregate, geotextile fabric, and slotted ag pipe to help reduce hydrostatic pressure behind the sleepers. Poor drainage can increase wall loading and shorten the service life of any retaining wall system.
